PSSN’s First International Scientific Convention

The Philippine Society for the Study of Nature (PSSN) is now accepting abstracts for oral or poster presentation for its First International Scientific Convention on May 2-4, 2007 at the Palawan State University, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan, Philippines. The convention’s theme is Community Participation and Biodiversity Education to Sustain Nature.

This convention aims to: (a) provide and develop strategies towards wiser and sustainable use of nature, (b) ensure a representation of responsible thinking and sentiments regarding issues about nature, and (c) serve as a channel for the exchange of information and professional expertise.

Recent liberal policies of the Philippine Government on mining have been most welcomed economic boldstep. However, it might lead to the transformation of Palawan as the “mining capital” of the country, being the richest island in terms of mineral deposit in the entire archipelago. This could be the worst nightmare of nature lovers. Destruction of Palawan’s serene environment goes against the grain for being dubbed as the Last Frontier. Deadline for the submission of abstracts will be on or before January 15, 2007. Registration fee, which is inclusive of the convention kits, refreshments, lunch, I.D., city tour, and the society’s Journal is $100.00 for international participants and PhP3,750.00 for Filipino participants.
